Announcement:
Graduate Student Support Program for Participation in Academic Conferences (2025)

 

The Pusan National University Advanced Professional Development Program for Maritime, Port, and Logistics, as part of the 5th Educational Training Program for the Shipping, Port and Logistics supported by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, is pleased to announce this funding opportunity to support graduate students' participation in academic conferences. This initiative is intended to strengthen their academic and research capabilities. We welcome applications from interested students.

1. Overview

◦ Program Title: Graduate Student Support Program for Participation in Academic Conferences

◦ Objective: To foster academic research output and enhance academic exchange opportunities by supporting students’ presentations and participation in academic events related to maritime, port, logistics, and related disciplines

◦ Funding Scope:

   - Registration fees are supported for both domestic and international seminars, special lectures, and conferences.

   - Travel expenses are supported only for presentations at international academic conferences.


2. Eligibility

◦ Master’s and doctoral students currently enrolled or research-completed at the Graduate School of International Studies, Pusan National University.

◦ Faculty advisors may receive support for accompanying international conference presenters (additional documents required).


3. Areas of Support

◦ Fields Covered: Maritime affairs, shipping, ports, logistics (specifically logistics research based on maritime and port contexts), logistics technologies, and other maritime related research areas

◦ Support Details:

   - Registration fees (one-time only) for domestic/international conferences, seminars, and special lectures.

   - Partial coverage of international travel expenses (airfare and accommodation) for student presenters.


4. Application Procedure

◦ Application Period: From the date of this notice until December 10, 2025 (rolling submission).

◦ Submission Method:

   - Email: sbe-center@pusan.ac.kr (Subject: [PMPL] Program Application (Applicant Name))

   - In person: Room 804, Sung Hak Building, Pusan National University

◦ Required Documents:

   - Common: Application form (Appendix 1) and certificate of enrollment or completion.

   - Academic Conference: Conference details and presentation plan (Appendix 2).

   - Seminar/Special Lecture: Event details and fee statements (Appendix 3).

◦ Notification: Individual notification will be made following document review.

   - For international conference applicants selected for support, additional documentation such as a checklist for predatory conference self-assessment and a written pledge will be requested prior to participation.

◦ Reporting and Reimbursement:

   - After the conclusion of the academic event, participants must submit supporting documents as follows:

     ① Common (All applicants):

       A. Evidence of the event schedule (e.g., conference proceedings, certificate of attendance)

 It is recommended to submit the conference proceedings in digital format (e.g., PDF) rather than as a printed original. If a digital file cannot be submitted, copies of the cover page, event schedule, and the table of contents showing the title of the presented paper must be submitted instead.

       B. Copy of the cover page of the presented material within the proceedings showing the acknowledgment statement.

       C. Receipts related to conference participation/registration fees such as:
  - Invoice, Bank transfer receipt, Credit card statement

    ② For International Conference Travel Support: Additional supporting documents will be provided separately to confirmed recipients (e.g., travel receipts, boarding passes, etc.)

   - After attending seminars or special lectures, participants must submit the following:

     ① Receipt-related documents: Invoice, Bank transfer receipt, Credit card statement

     ② Report: A report using the designated format (template will be provided separately)


5. Important Notes

◦ Duplicate support from other programs or scholarships for the same paper is not allowed.

◦ False or fraudulent applications will result in fund withdrawal and future ineligibility.

◦ Papers presented with support must include the following acknowledgment:

“This research was supported by the 5th Educational Training Program for the Shipping, Port and Logistics from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.”

◦ Support may be adjusted if there is overlap with other funding sources.

◦ Incomplete or incorrect documents may result in cancellation.

◦ Even after approval and funding, if the managing institution (KMI) later identifies discrepancies with submitted details, support may be withdrawn and funds reclaimed.

◦ For matters not specified in this announcement, the Program Management Guidelines and Pusan National University Research Fund Management Regulations shall apply.


6. International Conference Support Criteria

◦ Eligible Conferences:

   - Science & Technology: At least 4 countries represented, 20+ oral presentations, with 50% or more presenters from foreign institutions (at least 1/3 if held in Korea).

   - Humanities & Social Sciences: At least 4 countries, 10+ oral presentations, and the same foreign participant conditions.

   - Conferences hosted by commercial or academically unqualified organizations (i.e., predatory conferences) are not eligible, even if they meet the criteria.

◦ Eligible Participants:

   - Up to two graduate student authors per presentation or designated discussants.

   - Faculty advisors can receive support only when accompanying a student presenter who is an author.
